LU VERÍSSIMO
Santos (SP), 1990 I Lives and works in São Paulo (SP).
Self-taught artist, with exhibition at the Palace of Arts in Praia Grande /SP. He participates in the group of artists of Galeria Ontem Paris in São Paulo/SP, where he began in the art world. In his works, it is transfixed, in addition to a rich and gross sensitivity, an amazing talent capable of engendering for each composition the necessary dramaticity that aficionados seek in a work of art. What differentiates an insipid attempt to create from a stunning artistic production is that the latter makes us feel that there an intense and enriching narrative is in action; it is up to each of us to elaborate our own discernment, a process in which Veríssimo immerses us to perfection before his work.
Recognizing the drawings that clouds create by intertwining, listening to the cadence of rain on the roof, or listening to the dialogue that two shadows maintain on a night wall, are intelligible manifestations only for a few. These few are those who look at a composition of Joan Miró and in it decipher a scene of everyday life with the same sharpness that a common look sees an advertising poster. Better than deciphering a composition of Miró, Klee or Fritz Winter would be to be able to decipher signs of their own unconscious: representations of anguish and desire, exaltation and abstinence and transform them into curvilinear lines and biomorphic forms. It is what Veríssimo does with his works that seek to merge the realm of the unconscious into essential life forms from which aromas of humanity and love for women emanal for the artist the inexhaustible source of creative impulse
INTERVIEW
How did you get into the art world?
I always felt like seeing myself with a canvas and a brush in my hand, but I believed it was something far removed from me. I always had an immense need to express myself, so I met a friend who was very involved with art and encouraged me. So I started, self-taught.
What do you understand as Fine Arts?
I understand how to express it through forms, using various materials.
How do you define your Art?
Abstract style, but sometimes it runs away a little from the style. Honestly, I cannot define my art, I do not think it is so possible right now, and maybe it never defines itself. For now, I can say that I always want to say something... A friend once said that, in her vision, my sculptures are more "philosophical". It got me thinking.
What are your greatest references in the world of the Arts?
To name just a few of so many Juan Miró, Alexander Calder, Georgia O'keeffe, and recently Maria Martins.
What are the main themes used in your works? And why is that?
Conflict between beings and conflict with yourself.Conflict between beings, usually between romantic couples, and it is a lot about me, but people identify a lot when I talk about it.And internal conflicts, I mean that, for example, my sculpture titled "Escape", says a lot about the denial and prison that we ourselves put ourselves.
What are the main techniques used in your work? And which ones do you like to use the most?
Acrylic on canvas and oil on canvas. I like acrylic better.
What do you seek to pass through your works to the viewer?
I like the viewer to think, and question himself and question me.
What are the best and greatest experiences in your artistic career?
When I was invited by an artist from the region to exhibit a work of mine at the Palácio das Artes (Cidade Praia Grande). And when I started painting in front of a camera without getting lost in the idea. Finally, when the Yellow Frog gallery called me to be part of the team.
In his work, is there a kind of protest beyond what is obviously seen? If so, which one? If not, is there a theme that awakens your willingness to protest?
I like to photograph the feelings. Mine and the ones I know others feel.
Are you interested in doing a traveling exhibition? If so, how do you imagine this exhibition? Would you know what topic you would like to address?
Yes, I would participate in any high-level technical exhibition that would take my art into people's lives... Once in possession of more detailed information about the exhibition, I will design the topic to be addressed.
Where do you want to get to as a Plastic Artist?
I would like to be known, recognized and independent.
